However, that specific claim was based on a very narrow metric: the sheer number of tech workers. When you count heads, New York’s massive metro area, with its 394,300 tech employees, does edge out the Bay Area’s 375,730. The broader CBRE scorecard, which weighs thirteen different factors, from workforce density and educational attainment to real estate costs and wage growth, paints a much more nuanced picture.
