The quiet, tight-knit community of Menlo College, a prestigious private business school in Silicon Valley, has been deeply shaken by the arrest of 19-year-old student Andres Manuel Aguilar. Originally charged with the horrific sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl inside his campus dormitory, Aguilar now faces even deeper legal trouble. Prosecutors recently revealed that a scheduled court hearing had to be postponed because local police are actively investigating a potential second victim of the San Jose resident. San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe confirmed that the legal proceedings have been pushed back to late August to allow investigators the necessary time to fully explore these new, troubling allegations before a formal plea is entered.

The harrowing details of the initial case paint a deeply disturbing picture of exploitation. According to prosecutors, the encounter began at a transit stop in Menlo Park, where Aguilar allegedly approached the young girl and gave her his phone number. He later persuaded her to meet him on May 5. Investigators revealed that although the victim reportedly told Aguilar she was 17 years old, the suspect later admitted to law enforcement that he was fully aware she was a minor. Despite this knowledge, prosecutors say Aguilar took the child to a local store to purchase alcohol before bringing her back to his college residence hall, bypassing campus security measures designed to protect the student community.

Once inside the privacy of his dorm room, the situation escalated rapidly and tragically. The prosecution alleges that the 12-year-old girl was given alcohol and a cannabis vape, rendering her highly vulnerable. Campus surveillance footage captured the two entering Aguilar’s dorm room and later recorded the young girl leaving the premises. Court documents outline a terrifying ordeal where the suspect allegedly stripped off the victim’s clothing while she repeatedly cried out and protested. In a bizarre and panicked aftermath, Aguilar allegedly realized the gravity of his actions and used the delivery app DoorDash to order emergency Plan B contraception directly to his dorm room out of fear of pregnancy.

Aguilar is currently being held in county jail without bail, facing a litany of severe felony charges. These include aggravated sexual assault of a child, aggravated sexual assault of a minor involving oral copulation, and providing marijuana to a child under the age of 14. Because of the victim’s extreme youth, the legal system treats these offenses with the absolute highest level of severity. District Attorney Wagstaffe emphasized that when a child under the age of 14 is involved, society rightfully demands the strictest penalties, as there is absolutely no legal or moral argument for consent. If convicted on these charges, Aguilar faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Menlo College, an exclusive institution known for its small, highly personalized undergraduate student body of fewer than 900 students. Parents, students, and faculty have been left grappling with how such an egregious act of violence could take place so close to home, right inside the dormitory walls. In response to the growing outrage and concern over campus safety, a spokesperson for Menlo College released a statement affirming that the administration is cooperating fully with law enforcement, emphasizing that they take all allegations of criminal misconduct within their community with the absolute utmost seriousness.

As the community holds its breath, the focus remains on seeking justice for the young survivor and ensuring that any other potential victims are brought to light. The shocking nature of the allegations has ignited broader conversations about campus security, the vulnerability of young children online and in transit spaces, and the rapid response of local law enforcement. With the investigation expanding into the possibility of additional victims, prosecutors are working meticulously to build a comprehensive case. Aguilar remains behind bars as detectives piece together the timeline of his actions, preparing for a pivotal court appearance that will determine the next steps in this devastating legal battle.
