Trump Withdraws Support from Greene as Loomer Hints at Georgia Run

In a dramatic shift in Republican alliances, President Donald Trump has publicly withdrawn his endorsement of Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling her a “ranting lunatic” in a blistering post on Truth Social. This unexpected development has opened the door to speculation about potential challengers, with conservative commentator Laura Loomer quickly signaling her interest in possibly relocating to Georgia to run against Greene. The sudden rupture between Trump and one of his most vocal congressional supporters has sent shockwaves through MAGA circles and could significantly reshape the political landscape in Georgia’s deeply conservative 14th Congressional District.

The conflict erupted late Friday night when Trump issued a lengthy statement criticizing Greene, who has been one of his most loyal defenders in Congress since her election. In his rebuke, Trump claimed the Georgia Representative had become obsessed with “complaining,” suggested she had “turned left” politically, and hinted that conservative voters in her district were already considering primary challenges. Going further, Trump promised to provide “Complete and Unyielding Support” to the “right person” who decides to challenge Greene. While he did not name any specific potential candidates, the withdrawal of his endorsement removes what has been one of Greene’s most valuable political assets and creates a significant vulnerability in a district where Trump’s support carries enormous weight.

Within hours of Trump’s announcement, Laura Loomer – a controversial conservative commentator with approximately 1.8 million followers on X (formerly Twitter) – publicly teased a potential challenge by asking her audience, “Should I move to Georgia?” Loomer, who has maintained a close alliance with Trump while engaging in an increasingly bitter public feud with Greene, claimed the president had personally told her he wanted Greene “primaried.” The timing and directness of Loomer’s post immediately fueled speculation that she might be positioning herself as the Trump-backed alternative to Greene in the 2026 primary election. Though she has not made any formal announcement, her public contemplation of relocating to Georgia specifically to challenge Greene represents a significant escalation in their ongoing conflict.

The relationship between Loomer and Greene has deteriorated dramatically throughout 2024, with the two exchanging increasingly hostile public attacks. Their feud reached a boiling point in August when they clashed over Loomer’s criticism of Medal of Honor recipient Florent Groberg, leading to days of back-and-forth insults on social media. In her posts following Trump’s announcement, Loomer described Greene as “no friend to MAGA,” accused her of disloyalty dating back to 2021, and made claims about Greene’s political alliances during the 2022 midterms. Loomer has also repeatedly referenced allegations that Greene has received support from Democrats, using these claims to question her conservative credentials and loyalty to the MAGA movement. For her part, Greene has not publicly responded to either Trump’s withdrawal of support or Loomer’s suggestion that she might run against her.

If Loomer does relocate to Georgia and enter the race, it would create one of the most high-profile Republican primary battles in recent memory. Both women have built significant national profiles as provocative and unapologetic figures on the right, with large and passionate followings. Loomer, known for her confrontational style and controversial statements, would face Greene, who despite her recent falling out with Trump, has established herself as a fundraising powerhouse and influential voice within the Republican Party. The district itself remains solidly Republican, meaning that the primary election would likely determine who ultimately represents the area in Congress. With Trump now openly hostile to Greene and promising to support a challenger, the race would attract enormous national attention, substantial campaign funding, and intense media scrutiny.

This sudden realignment highlights the fluid nature of alliances within the MAGA movement and demonstrates Trump’s continued willingness to withdraw support from even his most vocal defenders if he perceives disloyalty. For Greene, who has built her political brand largely around her support for Trump and the MAGA agenda, losing his endorsement represents a significant political challenge that could fundamentally threaten her political future. For Loomer, who has remained steadfastly loyal to Trump throughout various controversies, the opportunity to potentially secure his endorsement for a congressional run presents a path to mainstream political power that has previously eluded her. As this drama continues to unfold, it will test the limits of personality-driven politics within the Republican Party and the extent to which Trump’s endorsement remains the defining factor in conservative primaries. Voters in Georgia’s 14th District may soon find themselves at the center of a national political storm that could redefine the boundaries and alliances of the American right.
