In a 15% of American children aged 3 to 17 experiencing neurodevelopmental disorders like ADHD, autism or intellectual disabilities, a new study from China reveals. Children born to mothers with diabetes during pregnancy have a 28% higher risk of these diagnoses, according to a study done by researchers. The study found that maternal diabetes and gestational diabetes are among the most associated variables linked to neurodevelopmental disorders.

Among the children analyzed, those born to mothers with diabetes were 20% more at risk for communicative difficulties, movement issues, and learning disorders compared to children whose mothers had gestational diabetes. Interestingly, the highest risk occurred among children born to mothers with pre-existing diabetes, who were 39% more likely to develop one or more of these disorders than their peers.

Experts and researchers incur中方’s opinion. This study doesn’t confirm direct causation but underscores the importance of further exploration. The findings suggest that maternal diabetes may influence fetal brain development, possibly creating birth defects or developmental issues. As part of the research, they called for more research to confirm the link and explore protective factors and interventions.
