Chelsea Green Secures Long-Term WWE Future with New Contract

Chelsea Green, a former champion and fan-favorite heel, has solidified her future in WWE with a significant contract update. The 34-year-old Canadian wrestling star, who has been winning audiences over with her entertaining antics and feuds with on-screen authority figures like Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, will be staying with the company until 2030. According to a Fightful Select exclusive report, Green originally signed a three-year contract in 2022 that was set to expire this year. However, WWE clearly recognizes her value and popularity, as they’ve agreed to a new five-year deal that extends her tenure substantially. This commitment from WWE speaks volumes about Green’s rising stock within the company and suggests big plans for her character moving forward.

Green’s current run has seen her achieve notable success, including becoming the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. This accomplishment helped establish her faction known as “The Green Regime,” featuring the “Secret Hervice” alongside fellow performers Piper Niven and Alba Fyre. Prior to this milestone, Green partnered with Sonya Deville to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. When Deville suffered an injury, Piper Niven stepped in as her replacement to continue the championship reign. Green has masterfully developed her heel persona, with fans embracing her over-the-top character work and backstage segments that often feature her complaining to management or stirring up trouble. Her distinctive voice, exaggerated mannerisms, and consistent character work have made her segments appointment viewing for many WWE fans.

Before finding her current success in WWE, Green traveled a winding path through professional wrestling. She initially made her mark in TNA Impact Wrestling from 2016 to 2018, performing as Laurel Van Ness before eventually using her real name. Following this first TNA run, Green moved to WWE’s developmental system NXT and later appeared on SmackDown. However, her first WWE stint was cut short in 2021 when the company released her from her contract after a period of inactivity stemming from a wrist injury. This setback didn’t deter Green, who quickly bounced back with appearances in Ring of Honor before returning to Impact Wrestling from 2021 to 2022. During this second Impact run, she achieved significant success, capturing both the Impact Knockouts Championship and the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championship alongside Deanna Purazzo.

Green’s journey came full circle when she officially returned to WWE in 2023, where she has since thrived. Her character work has been particularly compelling, as she’s perfected the role of an entitled, constantly complaining heel who believes she deserves special treatment. This persona has resonated strongly with audiences, making her one of the most entertaining acts on WWE programming. Green has also shown versatility by appearing across WWE brands, including recent appearances on NXT where she was featured in backstage segments with NXT North American Champion Ethan Page and popular performer Joe Hendry. Her cross-brand appeal demonstrates WWE’s confidence in her ability to enhance any show she appears on.

The new long-term contract opens numerous possibilities for Green’s future in WWE. With potential storylines, championship opportunities, and character development ahead, fans can expect to see much more from “The Hot Mess” in the coming years. Her established faction, “The Green Regime,” could continue to expand its influence and perhaps challenge for more tag team gold or pursue singles success. Green has proven herself adept at making the most of whatever creative direction she’s given, turning even smaller roles into memorable moments through her commitment to character and willingness to go all-in on comedic elements that enhance WWE’s entertainment value.

As Green’s WWE journey continues, many fans have expressed hope that her real-life husband, wrestler Matt Cardona (formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE), might eventually return to the company as well. Cardona has been making waves on the independent circuit since his WWE release, reinventing himself and becoming one of the most successful self-made stars outside the major promotions. A potential reunion of the couple within WWE could create interesting storyline opportunities and fresh matchups. Regardless of whether this comes to fruition, Green’s new contract ensures that her entertaining presence will remain a fixture of WWE programming for years to come, much to the delight of fans who have embraced her unique character and performances.
