General Fusion’s LM26 Fusion Machine: From 23 Years ofbreadth to Mid-2030s Power

General Fusion, a leader in clean energy, recently expanded its fusion demonstration machine to Richmond, B.C., after a significant period of layover and funding considerations. The company, which has been in the fusion business for over three months, raised $22 million, expanding its board and securing new financial backing. The LM26 machine, half the size of the projected commercial reactor, is designed to generate the high plasmas and ions needed for fusion reactions, mirroring the technologies powering the sun and stars. As we enter 2028, General Fusion continued its legacy by pioneering aHaving arrived in 2022 already reached the Musicalbreakeven with the National Ignition Facility (NIF). Helion Energy, an ambitious project aiming to produce fusion-powered energy in 2028, comprised the latter and began construction in July, with significant investments from $175 million.
