John Holl is a pivotal figure in the world of beer journalism, passionately blending his extensive experience as a journalist and his love for craft beer. Starting his career at just 16, he quickly ascended from a local newspaper intern to notable positions at esteemed publications, including the New York Times. His journey into beer journalism began when he celebrated his 21st birthday at a brewpub, igniting a desire for quality and diversity in beer that would steer his professional focus. By 2004, he was already crafting his first articles on beer, paving the way for what would become a profound connection with the craft beer community.

Holl’s rise in the industry accelerated between 2008 and 2009 when he began writing for leading beer publications like All About Beer and Ale Street News. These outlets were significant pillars in the beer journalism space but struggled to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Despite experiencing shifts in the editorial environment, Holl’s expertise became indispensable. As he took on the role of editor at All About Beer from 2012 to 2017, his influence in beer journalism solidified, garnering respect and recognition on a global scale, whilst frequently speaking at events around the world.

In 2022, Holl revived All About Beer alongside his associate, Andy Crouch, bringing it back into the fold of the beer writing community. Currently, he balances multiple roles, co-hosting three beer podcasts: Drink Beer, Think Beer with John Holl, BYO Nano Brew Podcast, and Steal This Beer. As the editor of All About Beer, he not only manages the publication’s content but also produces two additional podcasts, including The All About Beer Podcast. This multifaceted approach allows him to connect with a diverse audience of beer enthusiasts, expanding his reach and influence within the industry.
