Under specific circumstances, if a validator proposed a block sharing its parent’s hash — an unusual but not impossible occurrence — the whole chain could ground to a halt, forcing an arduous recovery process and eroding confidence in the upgrade’s readiness. Separately, Ethereum Foundation researcher Maria Silva flagged a bug tied to EIP-8037, the State Creation Gas Cost Increase proposal bundled into Glamsterdam. Silva found that the issue would require every execution-layer client to update its code before the upgrade could proceed safely. Hoodi Date Delayed, and Client Software Lags Behind

Beyond Sepolia, the timeline for Hoodi — Ethereum’s second public testnet in the Glamsterdam rollout — remains conspicuously unscheduled. Enrico del Fante of Consensys, one of the most influential companies in the Ethereum ecosystem, made the case during coordination calls that locking in a Hoodi date prematurely would be unwise, especially given the difficulties encountered on Devnet-9. The argument, rooted in prudence, is that rushing a testnet deployment to satisfy a calendar is a recipe for repeated failures. In the high-stakes world of blockchain infrastructure, a botched testnet is more than an inconvenience; it unsettles application developers who depend on stable environments, undermines stakeholder confidence, and weakens the narrative of reliability that Ethereum has worked years to establish. The uncertainty around Hoodi is mirrored by a wider sense of caution about the mainnet itself. Developers still hope Glamsterdam can reach the Ethereum mainnet before the end of 2026, a target that would keep the network’s upgrade cadence intact. But that hope is tempered by the reality that client implementations are not yet considered mainnet-ready.
