The New York Times and Amazon are forming a new partnership, according to a report released by News Corp. The deal is designed to shift collective ownership of digital content to Amazon, which took over its former parent, The Times, in 2019. The agreement would see Times editorial content being used by Amazon in its AI-driven platforms, including its creation of summaries and excerpts from The Times’ content. This move is part of a broader effort to diversify the pop culture landscape, as streaming giants are increasingly adopting content from millennial-focused outlets like The Times.

The New York Times Co. filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI and its partner Microsoft in December 2023, accusing the tech companies of using The Times’s content without payment to create AI models. The Times had previously granted AFC categor flaws to both companies, which lasted until the lawsuit was filed. The suit alleged that the companies used vast amounts of copyrighted material from The Times to train “substitutes for The Times,” which they accused are widely publicized and were manipulated to produce outputs like ChatGPT and other AI models. OpenAI has licensing deals with universities and other news outlets, including The Wa通风 Press and The Atlantic.

Amazon, in response to the lawsuit, emphasized its commitment to creating “high-quality journalism” and highlighted its mission to ensure that its work remains valued through commercial deals and intellectual property rights. The Times, while disagreeing with the suit, shared the spirit of collaboration. Meredith Kopit Levien, the Times’ chief executive, stated that the agreement aligns with a long-standing principle of valuing and ensuring ран优质 journalism, regardless of how it is distributed.
