Becky Lynch’s Comments Spark Response from Former WWE Colleague

In a candid moment that has sent ripples through the wrestling community, WWE superstar Becky Lynch recently made comments about her past storylines that appeared to touch a nerve with former colleague Macey Estrella-Kadrec, better known to fans as Lacey Evans. The exchange began during Lynch’s appearance on comedian Bert Kreischer’s YouTube show “Something’s Burning,” where she and her husband Seth Rollins discussed their relationship’s portrayal in WWE programming. The conversation took an unexpected turn when Lynch reflected on her career trajectory following her historic WrestleMania main event, specifically mentioning her subsequent feud with Evans in 2019. What might have seemed like an offhand comment about creative direction quickly evolved into a social media response that has wrestling fans talking.

During the interview, Lynch opened up about the challenges of having her real-life relationship with Rollins incorporated into WWE storytelling right after news of their relationship became public. “I was at the height of my career. I was ‘The Man,’ and he was the Heavyweight Champion. We were two characters that were loved by the audience,” Lynch explained. She then addressed her post-WrestleMania programming, saying, “I start working with Lacey Evans right out the gate. Like so kind of really had, God bless her, but she wasn’t you know, for me to go from the main event of WrestleMania to somebody who hadn’t done anything was terrible.” These comments, while seemingly focused more on WWE’s creative decisions than Evans personally, nonetheless prompted a swift response from the former WWE star.

Evans didn’t hold back when an X (formerly Twitter) account shared Lynch’s remarks. “Don’t hate the player. Hate the game,” Evans wrote, adding that “the only person who *shoot cried more than you was the baby I had on my hip while taking all the opportunities.” She concluded with what some fans interpreted as a teaser: “if/when I come back….you will STILL do nothing but gently shake my hand and say ‘how cute my little family is’ backstage.” The response highlighted the complex dynamics that often exist behind the scenes in professional wrestling, where personal and professional boundaries can blur, especially when real-life circumstances impact storyline decisions.

Evans’ WWE journey provides important context to the exchange. After joining the company in 2016, she developed a promising “Southern belle” character in NXT before being called up to the main roster in 2019, where she was immediately placed in a high-profile program with Lynch. While Evans never captured championship gold during her WWE tenure, she did achieve recognition by ranking 23rd in the prestigious PWI Women’s 100 list that same year. Her career trajectory took an unexpected turn in 2021 when pregnancy paused what appeared to be plans for a championship win and WrestleMania program with Charlotte Flair. According to reports, WWE had intended for Evans to defeat Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship at Elimination Chamber that year before continuing a storyline with Flair, but these plans were scrapped when Evans announced her pregnancy.

After a year away from the ring, Evans returned to WWE but struggled to regain momentum despite efforts to repackage her character around her real-life military background. She eventually departed the company in August 2023, later revealing in an interview with Chris Van Vliet that professional wrestling had never been her true passion. Her sharp response to Lynch’s comments has sparked speculation about her intentions – whether she’s genuinely open to returning to the wrestling world or simply generating publicity for ventures outside WWE. The interaction demonstrates how comments about creative decisions can sometimes be perceived as personal critiques in the tight-knit wrestling community.

Meanwhile, Lynch continues to be one of WWE’s most prominent stars, regularly featuring in major storylines and matches. Her comments appear to have been aimed more at WWE’s booking decisions following her groundbreaking WrestleMania moment rather than a personal attack on Evans’ abilities. As Lynch prepares to compete in this Saturday’s Survivor Series WarGames event, this brief social media exchange serves as a reminder of how the wrestling business blends performance, real-life circumstances, and creative decisions in ways that can create lasting impressions – both in the ring and long after storylines have concluded. Whether this exchange leads to anything more remains to be seen, but it certainly has fans talking about both performers and their shared history in WWE.
