Embracing the Spin: Sherwyn’s Journey Through Vulnerability and Musical Growth

In a refreshing take on matters of the heart, Nashville-raised artist Sherwyn has transformed the often melancholic subject of relationships into something vibrant with his new EP, “Spin City.” “Sometimes when you talk about relationship stuff and courting, it can be sad. But I was like, ‘Nah, that’s not the vibe. It’s almost like defeat,'” Sherwyn explains, capturing the essence of what makes his latest work stand out. The six-song EP blends genre-defying elements with emotional depth, creating a surprisingly upbeat soundtrack to vulnerability. Working alongside his twin brother Kendo as the production duo Two Fresh, Sherwyn crafted this intimate project over nearly a year, deliberately isolating themselves to preserve authenticity. “We rented a house out in Monte Nido, just to get away from anything that could influence it,” he shares. This creative retreat allowed him to fully embrace his personal truth, resulting in music that celebrates the beautiful uncertainty of human connection rather than dwelling in its difficulties.

The title “Spin City” perfectly encapsulates the emotional whirlwind at the heart of the EP—that dizzy, disorienting feeling of new romance where certainty remains elusive. “The big main throughline is the feeling of being spun,” Sherwyn explains, “The feeling of ‘I don’t know if this is for me or not’ or ‘I love it.’ It’s coming from a vulnerable place.” Despite navigating these complex emotions, an infectious optimism permeates the project, particularly in the opening track “First to Blame,” where he sings, “What’s the point, if it don’t feel like a f** Friday?” This line embodies Sherwyn’s philosophy toward relationships—they should feel hopeful and exciting, even amid uncertainty. “If it doesn’t feel like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to go and be with this person, to talk to this person or just to know more about the way somebody feels about you or the way I feel about them,’ I don’t want it,” he emphasizes. This commitment to joy, even in vulnerable moments, gives the EP its distinctive energy and appeal.

Behind every note of “Spin City” lies the powerful creative partnership between Sherwyn and his twin brother Kendo. As Two Fresh, they’ve built an impressive production portfolio, collaborating with artists like Duckwrth, Amber Mark, and Gabriel Jacoby. Their creative process thrives on spontaneity and authenticity: “We just create out of innocence and not knowing what the end goal is, not having a reference point. Because I think for us, we want to always keep it fun. It has to feel like fun and not work,” Sherwyn explains. This playfulness has been their guiding principle since they first began making music together, embracing the journey rather than fixating on the destination. The twins’ lifelong connection creates a uniquely candid creative environment where nothing is held back. “We know each other so well… We’ve been together since the start, we’re not afraid to say. We’re not afraid to be blunt, which also just helps in the creative process,” Sherwyn notes. This honesty extends to their collaborations with other artists, where they prioritize relationship-building over immediate results.

The musical identity that Sherwyn and Kendo have cultivated is deeply rooted in their multicultural upbringing as children of Bajan immigrants raised in Middle Tennessee. This rich cultural tapestry exposed them to an eclectic range of sounds from an early age. “We had my pops always playing Al Green, but he’s also playing Soca and reggae, and Calypso,” Sherwyn recalls. Meanwhile, his older brothers introduced him to everything from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Wu-Tang Clan and Three 6 Mafia. This diverse musical education sparked the twins’ desire to create something entirely their own, motivating them to learn instruments and music production software. “We just wanted to blend all the stuff that we heard… to make it into this one thing that is mine, ours, whatever, is like something that just feels fresh, feels like you haven’t heard it,” he explains. This commitment to authentic fusion has become the cornerstone of their distinctive sound, allowing them to carve out a unique space in the industry.

Summer 2024 marked a significant milestone in Sherwyn’s career as he joined the All-American Freakshow tour alongside Duckwrth and DE’WAYNE, giving him his first real opportunity to witness audience reactions to his music. “It’s a beautiful thing to see people enjoying it, and I love to perform,” he shares enthusiastically. The live experience has been particularly rewarding following successful projects like “Infinity High” and the popular single “Fever” featuring Sariah Mae. Among his repertoire, “Lizzy Lizzy” has emerged as a particular crowd favorite, with audiences instinctively joining in on the refrain “Life’s too short.” This mantra encapsulates Sherwyn’s approach to both music and life—embracing the moment and focusing on enjoyment rather than perfection. His touring schedule will continue expanding in early 2026 when he joins singer Amber Mark as a special guest on “The Pretty Idea Tour,” providing even more opportunities to connect with fans.

Despite the fresh release of “Spin City” and future tour plans, Sherwyn remains firmly focused on continued creative growth. “We’re just gonna keep on the gas, keep trying to make these sounds,” he affirms. This forward momentum reflects his overall artistic philosophy—celebrating vulnerability while maintaining optimism, honoring diverse influences while creating something new, and always prioritizing authentic expression over commercial considerations. The energy that permeates “Spin City” isn’t just a production choice but a fundamental aspect of Sherwyn’s approach to his craft. “That’s the one thing I’ve taken from tour,” he reflects, “The energy has got to be shown. And I think in the music, it’s already there too. So, let’s have fun.” As audiences continue discovering the emotional landscape of “Spin City,” they’re not just hearing songs about relationships—they’re experiencing Sherwyn’s invitation to embrace life’s uncertainties with an open heart and a sense of adventure, spinning through the complexities of human connection with the perfect soundtrack.
