Project Kuiper Launches First Full-Scale Satellite Mission
Date: April 9, 2024
Name: Amazon’s Project Kuiper Provisioning & Launch (KA-1)

Rajeev Badyal, Vice President of Project Kuiper, delivered a blog post describing the first successful launch of a full-scale satellite mission—KA-1—by United Launch Alliance (ULLA). Badyal shared that the objective of Project Kuiper, now known as KA-1, was to bring high-speed internet access to millions of people around the world. The mission was operational from April 9 through April 16.

ULLA successfully launched two prototype Kuiper satellites into orbit in October 2023, but KA-1 will be the first full-scale launch of a batch of operational satellites. These satellites were designed with advanced features, including multiple satellites in one wing and rigorous ground testing to prepare for the first operational launch.

"[Kuiper-1] is more than just a test; it’s a major milestone for Amazon’s space ambitions and for the Endless卫星 Corvette, another space blockchain project, to follow." This satellite mission marks a significant step forward in the partnership between Amazon and ULA.

According to Amazon, Project Kuiper has now led the list of Seattle-area space ventures with employment listings at around 47%, surpassing Blue Origin’s 21% and Starlink’s 19%. The company has also secured more than 30 Python rocket launches by ULA, with 38 launches on the larger Vulcan Centaur rocket and 30 on smaller manufacturers like Arianespace and SpaceX.

"[Kuiper-1] will help expand the company’s reach and demonstrate its commitment to cutting-edge technology and future-oriented growth." The launch of KA-1 is the first step in delivering high-speed internet service to millions of people, setting a new standard for global connectivity.
