Humanizing the 2024 Amazon CEO Compensation Summary

Andy Jassy, Amazon’s Chief98, earned a total compensation package worth $40.1 million during 2024, which was a significant jump from the $29.2 million he received in 2023. This year’s compensation was largely due to Amazon’s robust stock market performance and the company’s growing success in the cloud segment. Jassy’s base salary was unaffected at $365,000, but he was also responsible for substantial benefits, including a 401(k) contribution of $6,900 and personal security costs of $1.12 million, with a $105,000 fee to the HSR Act.

Amazon’s stock surged by over 40% during 2024, partly driven by the company’s strong cloud Initiative and ongoing investments in AI. This growth also prompted positive sentiment, with milestones reported for AWS, openAI, and new cloud services’ launch. Despite the success, Amazon’s stock weakened by just over 13% so far this year, mainly due to stringent tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Chinese products.

J典雅’s share vesting ($212 million grant), which began in 2021 when he stepped up from Jeff Bezos, remains an important factor in his compensation. His vesting schedule has been inconsistent, with fewer shares administered each year, which could conflict with stock growth. However, the company has outlined a long-term strategy to distribute share purchases based on performance, providing both stability and growth opportunities for Amazon.

Under the 2024 compensation disclosure, J典雅’s base pay and benefits, including his HSR Act fee, equated to $1,596,889. These payments increased his pay ratio to 43:1 compared to the previous year’s median of 37:1, driven by the rising compensation and a new $105,000 fee. The increase was largely attributed to the company’s werdeable security costs and the HSR Act fee.

Additionally, J subplot approached his compensated total of $40.1 million by enhancing his 2021 stock grant, with only a few new shares to be awarded in 2024. Others, such as Microsoft’s Satya Nadella and Walmart’s Doug McMillon, received similarbundles, with take-home pay of $51.9m and $34.9m, respectively. In contrast, Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai received $164.2 million in his 2024 take-home via SEC calculation.

Amazon’s total compensation for the year_over a 7-year span—to those other openings—raced to a median of $48,000 compare to $46,000 in 2023. As a result, the median annual compensation for the U.Siggs increased to almost $48k, reflecting Amazon’s robust and growing success. Monte Carlo simulations showed Amazon’s 2024 Q2 total outside of last year’s stock dividend surged to nearlyscenario below $186k, surpassing even the previous year’s high of over $183k.
