David Huerta, the President of Service Employees International Union California (SEIU), was released from federal custody on Monday (November 9) on a $50,000 bond after being charged with “conspiracy to impede an officer.” Huerta, the 58-year-old labor leader, was arrested during the latest anti-ICE (Immerseditransparent) protest in Los Angeles on Friday. During the arrest, he was photographed wearing socks, carrying shoes, following his release from custody. Huerta expressed his innocence, stating, “this fight is ours, it’s our community’s, but it belongs to everyone.” He emphasized that his only way to win is through nonviolence.

The decision was made following intense scrutiny by a federal court filing, which detailed his positioning during a moment of tension.
