In April 2024, a suspected Vietnamese immigrant, Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza, who was divorced and a 47-year-old Mexican national, was detained prior to being granted release by federal immigration authorities in the U.S. His case was linked to a deadly Colorado crash involving a semi-truck driven by Ignacio on Highway 285 in June. Ignacio was charged with multiple unintentional severe injuries and death, despite being illegally residing in the U.S. at the time of the crash. According to federal authorities, ICE agents detained him on Sunday, 14:30, shortly after his release from a thíchbraja imprisonment. His plea was made to plead guilty to one count of careless driving resulting in death and three counts of careless driving resulting in injury. He was sentenced to approximately one year in jail. ICE officials stated that, since 2002, Ignacio has been removed from the U.S. 12 times and has been removed from Mexico four times.
