Jennifer Lopez Embraces New Chapter as Twins Prepare for College

Jennifer Lopez, now 56, is navigating significant life transitions in 2025 as she prepares to send her 17-year-old twins Max and Emme to college. Following her recent divorce from Ben Affleck, the sale of their shared Beverly Hills mansion, and the purchase of a new $17.5 million Hidden Hills estate, Lopez is embracing this next phase of motherhood with remarkable positivity. On the opening night of her “Up All Night Live in Las Vegas” residency, she reflected on her journey as a parent, noting that she has essentially been a single mother since the twins were three years old. Despite the challenges and the people who have “come in and out” of their lives, Lopez emphasized the strong foundation she’s built with her children, creating what she describes as a solid home they can always return to throughout their lives.

The emotional connection Lopez shares with Max and Emme was on full display during her New Year’s Eve Vegas performance, where she brought her children onstage for a touching moment captured in a video she later shared on Instagram. The scene—complete with the three embracing as fireworks erupted behind them—symbolized their unbreakable bond just months before the twins are set to leave home. Lopez expressed amazement at having reached this milestone together, telling Entertainment Tonight, “I can’t believe that we’ve gotten here, you know, just the three of us.” Her pride in watching her children grow into young adults who are ready to forge their own paths is evident, as she recalled her own feelings of excitement and anticipation at age 18, preparing to step into independence.

While focusing on her children’s future, Lopez is simultaneously reshaping her own living situation. In February, shortly after finalizing her divorce from Affleck, she purchased a new guard-gated estate in Hidden Hills, California. Although renovations on this property are still underway, Lopez has continued to reside in the enormous Beverly Hills home she briefly shared with Affleck—despite the property being back on the market. Holiday images shared on her social media revealed that she hosted Christmas festivities at this former marital home, surrounded by family members and her twins. This arrangement appears to be temporary as she prepares her new bachelorette pad, suggesting 2025 likely marked her final holiday season in the Beverly Hills mansion.

The Beverly Hills property itself represents another chapter closing in Lopez’s life. She and Affleck have been attempting to sell the home since July 2024, when they initially listed it for $68 million. After nearly a year without a buyer, they reduced the price to $59.9 million before briefly delisting it. In September, they relisted the mansion at the significantly lower price of $52 million—still a substantial loss considering they purchased it for $60.9 million in May 2023 and invested considerably in custom renovations. These included an indoor sports complex featuring basketball and pickleball courts, a fully equipped gym, boxing ring, sports lounge, and bar. The impressive estate contains 12 bedrooms and 24 bathrooms spread across its 38,000-square-foot interior, situated on 5.2 acres in the exclusive Beverly Crest community.

Throughout these material changes, Lopez’s focus remains firmly on her relationship with her children and their readiness to embark on their college journeys. “I feel really good about it,” she said about becoming an empty nester. Her comments reflect a mother who recognizes the importance of providing stability while encouraging independence. “They’re so ready to get out there,” she observed of her twins, expressing confidence in their preparation for this next phase. The foundation of love and security she’s established with Max and Emme appears to be the accomplishment she values most, telling interviewers that knowing her children feel secure in their relationship with her gives her peace as they prepare to leave home.

As 2025 continues to unfold, Lopez stands at a crossroads of personal and professional evolution. Her Las Vegas residency demonstrates her enduring star power, while her role as a mother enters a new phase. The singer-actress’s journey reflects the universal experience of parents watching their children grow up and prepare to leave home—albeit played out on a more public and luxurious stage. Despite the high-profile divorce, real estate dealings, and career demands, Lopez’s narrative centers on what matters most to her: the close relationship with her twins and their readiness to pursue their dreams with the knowledge that they have a solid home base to return to whenever needed. As she puts it, “they have that love and they can go out and do whatever they want”—perhaps the greatest gift any parent can offer their children as they step into adulthood.
