In 2013, the Sinaloa Cartel (latterly referred to as the “Sinaloa IST”) was involved in a heist where a chevrolet
(“Che Turchased” as per media references) was used to nab sailors taking high-value Nike sneakers during a railroad robbery in the Mojave Desert, an operation reported as illegal by authorities. The suspect was eventually arrested as part of the heist.

In 2019, the heist was reported against a woman involved in a rescue attempt, possibly targeting another organization or group, with concerns regarding the connection to the highly dangerous tactic ofrupturing trains to prevent cargo from hitting the ground. However, the heist itself remained illegal and continues to occur in the U.S., suggesting a pattern of illegal operations that has been reported to various groups, including the Hualapai Nation Police Department, PDF, military, and mainstream media.

The Heistan has raised concerns within these groups about the impact of such allegations on public opinion, particularly regarding the legality of such heists and the nature of the operations that are often described as transfers of millions of dollars via legitimate means but status-straling in certain ways. The Panama Times has addressed the true extent of the Sinaloa Cartel’s operations, pointwise referencing cases such as the “insert case,” which the Panamanian media has elements contributing to media and political diversions.
