Milady Launches RemiliaNET: The First Step Toward a New Internet Culture

In a bold move that signals ambitions extending far beyond the NFT marketplace, the creators behind the popular Milady NFT project have unveiled RemiliaNET, a platform designed to track user achievements through a “social credit score” system. This launch represents the initial phase of a much larger vision: RemiliaChat, a full-fledged social media network positioned to compete with established platforms like X (formerly Twitter). According to Remilia Corporation executives, the goal transcends cryptocurrency and NFTs, aiming instead to “save the entire culture of the internet.”

The Dawn of RemiliaNET: Building Digital Identity Through Achievement

RemiliaNET’s launch follows weeks of anticipation sparked by a mysterious countdown on the Milady Cult website that left the community speculating wildly. After an unexpected eight-day extension following the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, the countdown finally concluded Friday, revealing the platform’s official launch.

“Remilia’s goal has never been just to dominate crypto and NFTs. We plan to save the entire culture of the internet, and the world through it, in the same way we did for crypto. RemiliaChat is how we achieve this,” Michael Dragovic, Chief of Staff at Remilia Corporation, told Decrypt. “RemiliaNET is the identity service layer of Remilia Chat. We’re launching it now prior to releasing full social features to begin the onboarding process.”

The browser-based platform offers users the choice between default Kagami-style profile pictures or the option to connect their crypto wallets to display NFTs from various Remilia and derivative collections, including Radbro, Aura, and Schizposters. More significantly, the platform introduces a comprehensive achievement tracking system that translates to a “social credit score,” placing users on a global leaderboard.

Achievements, previously available through the Remilia Achievement Score page, can be earned through activities such as minting specific NFTs, playing on the Miladycraft Minecraft server, or participating in the project’s alternate reality games. The new system promises a more streamlined experience with expanded achievement opportunities and notifications for new unlockable goals.

Incentivizing Participation: The CULT Token and Manipulation Rounds

RemiliaNET will facilitate what Dragovic describes as “manipulation rounds” – periods when the project’s CULT token is airdropped to users based on their achievements and rankings. However, the rewards ecosystem extends beyond token allocation.

“RemiliaNET assigns a public ‘social credit score’ to every user that serves as multifactor sybil detection as well as cross-platform scoring, which will result in hidden incentive rewards,” Dragovic explained. “[It] will extend beyond direct token allocation into a general rewards ecosystem. These will be used to encourage user behaviors that maximize quality contribution and community distribution.”

This approach reflects Remilia Corporation’s sophisticated understanding of digital community building, leveraging gamification principles to foster engagement while simultaneously creating an economic infrastructure within their ecosystem. The social credit system serves the dual purpose of preventing fraudulent accounts while rewarding authentic participation.

RemiliaChat: Reimagining Social Media for Internet Veterans

Friday’s RemiliaNET launch represents just the first step toward Remilia Corporation’s more ambitious project: RemiliaChat. Led by Charlotte Fang, the team has been methodically preparing for this evolution, experimenting with numerous platforms over the years to understand the mechanics of successful online communities.

“We’ve experimented with dozens of platforms in the past five years alone,” Dragovic said. “We’re definitely veterans of the internet, and we have quite a bit of experience with understanding what makes a platform work and what keeps that fire alive.”

RemiliaChat aims to address what the team perceives as fundamental flaws in existing social media platforms, including Reddit, Discord, Twitter, and chan culture – especially 4chan. The platform will feature a content feed, chat functionality, and user profiles, but with key differences from mainstream alternatives. Specifically, RemiliaChat will employ a custom algorithm designed to reduce what Dragovic calls “slop content” while emphasizing anonymity and pseudonymity.

The project’s philosophy stems from the team’s deep roots in internet culture and their community’s disillusionment with what they view as the degradation of online discourse. Dragovic characterizes the Milady community as “the diaspora of chan culture,” suggesting that RemiliaChat aims to provide a home for those seeking more authentic digital interaction.

“Society’s most important discourse always occurs in iconic gathering places,” Dragovic explained. “These places were our tribal campfires, our Athenian forums, our zones of intellectual exchange. And within them, always a core group of people coming together to develop the ideas of their time. Our pivotal places now happen online. Our iconic minds are anonymous posters.”

Navigating Content Moderation in a Controversial Community

The Milady community has developed a reputation for controversial content that spans the political spectrum, though outsiders often characterize the group as leaning toward far-right ideologies with tendencies to employ racist and otherwise divisive rhetoric. This reputation stems partly from Fang’s concept of “pre-cancelling” – a philosophy where community members intentionally embrace shocking humor or offensive language to appear countercultural, regardless of their actual beliefs.

This approach has created friction with traditional social media moderation systems, presenting a challenge for RemiliaChat’s development. While the community might prefer complete freedom, Remilia Corporation acknowledges the necessity of some moderation to prevent illegal content.

“Our intention is to do as little moderation as possible in terms of content,” Dragovic told Decrypt. “Our belief is that 90% of moderation comes from the way you design the layout of your site. The site should itself steer the user into posting a certain way and creating a certain form of engagement.”

He added that intervention would be limited to “absolutely necessary parts, like bad actors, illegal shit, and things that could get the FBI knocking on our door.” This approach reveals the delicate balance the platform aims to strike – fostering free expression while preventing truly harmful content.

Cultivating a New Digital Culture

RemiliaChat represents more than just another social media platform; it embodies a philosophical stance on digital interaction and community building. By positioning themselves as veterans of internet culture disillusioned with mainstream platforms, Remilia Corporation aims to create what they consider a more authentic digital space.

The success of this endeavor remains uncertain. Critics might question whether the platform can maintain sufficient moderation to prevent harmful content while preserving the free expression its community values. Others may wonder if the achievement-based social credit system will foster genuine engagement or merely incentivize performative participation.

What’s clear, however, is that Remilia Corporation has ambitious goals extending far beyond typical NFT projects. With RemiliaNET now operational and RemiliaChat on the horizon, the team is attempting to translate their cultural influence in the NFT space into a broader reimagining of online social interaction. Whether they succeed in “saving the entire culture of the internet” remains to be seen, but their approach offers a fascinating case study in community-driven platform development and the evolution of digital culture in the Web3 era.
